A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Fondata dal Marchese Lodovico Antinori nel 1981, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia è oggi una delle cantine più famose d'Italia. Antinori è il fratello di Piero Antonori, fondatore della Tenuta Tignanello, e il cugino di Mario Incisa della Rocchetta che ha fondato la Tenuta San Guido che produce il famoso Sassicaia. Lodovico Antinori è stato uno dei primi ad iniziare a produrre miscele bordolesi di alta qualità o "Super Tuscans" come sono ora conosciuti nella Maremma toscana.

    Il vino più accessibile dell'azienda è Le Volte, un rosso toscano vibrante e disinvolto composto principalmente da Merlot con una quantità minore di Sangiovese e Cabernet Sauvignon. Ogni varietà d'uva è fermentata separatamente in vasche d'acciaio e poi invecchiata in botti di rovere per 10 mesi prima di creare la miscela finale.

    Il risultato è un rosso elegante e fruttato che scoppia di prugne mature, ciliegie e sentori di bacche scure insieme a spezie e note tostate dall'invecchiamento in rovere. Al palato c'è una struttura ricca e liscia, un corpo medio, tannini morbidi e un finale lungo con ampi sapori di frutta scura conditi con cannella, chiodi di garofano ed erbe secche. Provate ad abbinarlo ai classici salumi italiani, alla selvaggina di stagione o alla pasta fresca servita con un ricco ragù a base di pomodoro.
