    Fondata dall'immigrato inglese Christopher Rawson Penfold nel 1844, con l'obiettivo di produrre vino medicinale, Penfolds è oggi il più famoso e prestigioso produttore di vino australiano. Il grande successo è arrivato negli anni '50, grazie all'enologo Max Schubert e alla creazione di quello che è considerato il loro vino più rappresentativo, Grange. Per soddisfare le richieste del mercato, l'azienda iniziò a produrre anche i vini da tavola Bin 389, Bin 707, Bin 28 e Bin 128, nello stesso periodo. Oggi l'azienda fa parte del gruppo Treasury Wine Estates insieme a Matua, Beaulieu Vineyard, Beringer e Wolf Blass.

    La prima annata di Penfolds RWT Bin 798 Shiraz risale al 1997 e fu immessa sul mercato nel 2000. A quel tempo il nome del vino non aveva la denominazione Bin 798 e RWT stava per "Red Winemaking Trial", a indicare la continua sperimentazione. Il RWT è prodotto con uve Shiraz della Barossa Valley e invecchiato in rovere francese.

    Il vino è concentrato e potente. Al naso, rivela un profilo aromatico opulento ed esuberante, con note di prugne, gelsi e ribes, e poi sentori di caffè, cioccolato e nocciola. Al palato, è ricco, sostanzioso e muscoloso. I tannini sono solidi ma morbidi. Il finale è lungo e denso e richiama note di cioccolato. È il vino perfetto per la carne rossa.
