A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Jean-Luc Colombo è soprannominato il "Mago della vinificazione del Rodano" per il suo lavoro visionario nella regione e la sua collezione unica di vini creati dai migliori vigneti della valle. Jean-Luc e sua moglie Anne hanno acquistato il loro primo vigneto del Rodano a Cornas nel 1986 e da allora la coppia è diventata leader nella regione per il suo impegno nell'innovazione e nella qualità.

    La filosofia di vinificazione di Jean-Luc si concentra sull'enfatizzazione della freschezza e del frutto oltre alla potenza e al potenziale di invecchiamento. Raggiunge questo obiettivo attraverso tecniche come la diraspatura e la limitazione dell'influenza del rovere in cantina. Il suo Les Bartavelles Chateauneuf-du-Pape è un esempio eccezionale dello stile di Jean-Luc, che combina note di ricchi mirtilli, cassis e prugna rossa con spezie dolci, erbe secche e una freschezza equilibrante.

    Questo classico Chateauneuf-du-Pape prende il nome dalla piccola pernice di roccia che si trova comunemente nella regione. Composto da Syrah, Grenache e Mourvèdre, il vino giovane è in parte maturato in grandi botti di rovere per 16 mesi per aggiungere complessità pur mantenendo la freschezza e la purezza varietale. Il risultato è un vino rosso ben arrotondato e audace con tannini fermi e la capacità di invecchiare e svilupparsi per almeno il prossimo decennio.
