Nel 1992 i proprietari dell'azienda vinicola Sumac Ridge Estate Winery, Harry McWatters e Bob Wareham, acquistarono un vigneto inutilizzato e sperimentarono l'impianto di barbatelle di vite francese per produrre i primi blend in stile Bordeaux della regione. Da allora l'azienda si è costruita una reputazione impressionante per i suoi audaci vini rossi a base di Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz e Cabernet Franc.

Negli ultimi decenni Black Sage è diventata famosa per i suoi pregiati vini rossi ottenuti da classici vitigni bordolesi come Merlot e Cabernet Sauvignon. Grazie ai terreni sabbiosi e ben drenati, alle condizioni aride e desertiche e alle soleggiate giornate estive, il terroir è ideale per produrre vini rossi intensi e potenti, ricchi di complessità e raffinatezza.
